About the Foundation

Founded in 2025, Letterpress Forward Foundation was created to care for the shared knowledge that sustains letterpress printing and to support the people who practice, teach, and carry this craft forward. The Foundation serves as steward of Briar Press, the online discussion forum and knowledge space now in its thirtieth year of service.

Built and maintained by Elizabeth and Eric C. Nevin, Briar Press has long been a place where printers help one another by troubleshooting presses, sharing techniques, passing along historical information, and exchanging practical experience. Over three decades, it has grown into an irreplaceable archive of community-generated technical and historical knowledge.

The Foundation works to ensure this knowledge remains stable, accessible, and grounded in community as digital spaces evolve.
